I saw the first eider ducks of the year today-4 of them in the sea. 2 males and 2 females. Eider ducks are very numerous in Spring and Summer but they do not seem to appear here in winter – as far as I have seen. Among the other birds on the beach were aContinue reading “February 25th 2021”

Spring is on the way. Snowdrops and crocuses are out. Daffodils are shooting up. Buds appearing on the shrubs and trees Thank goodness – although we are still locked down. Today I heard a skylark singing while walking across the golf course. There are many many in summer but although apparently skylarks are here allContinue reading “February 24th 2021”

It was a beautiful winter’s day today. The snow was still crisp and white although quite icy and slippery in places. This is a path alongside the golf club on the way to the beach. Birds, squirrels and deer love the fruit and seeds; its flowers provide nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinating insects.. The berries are called haws and are rich inContinue reading “November 1st 2020”

Today was sunny and clear to start with but dark clouds blew in and heavy showers permeated the day. Inland there were not many birds: a lone skylark. Where have the others gone? Two oyster catchers – oblivious of me standing watching them. Overhead a small group of grey lag geese flew past. There areContinue reading “October 26th 2020”
